Questing!
Speak your wish… I shall grant you any single wish you have.
Before Mellophone was born, those words set his father on a path of incredible growth and self-discovery. A wish started it all, and Mello has heard the story over and over. How his father was pulled away from a planet where he had reached his limits to become the hero of time. Experiencing the destruction of all history and pulling it back from the brink was precisely what led to Mello's birth- his father wanted to leave something for the future.
Mello's own journey through time had involved his father being erased from history, and though Mello survived the experience, the emptiness of a life without him left a hollow feeling he couldn't shake even after Saxaphone was restored.
He needed to go on his own journey, and merely wandering space had already failed to fulfil him. So he took it back to what started it all.
"Dragon… I wish for a challenge only I can complete!" He makes his wish, in the shadow of the enormous dragon. The iconic 'vweeeen' sound and a glow of its red eyes was all it took. Mello vanished- unbeknownst to him, in another dimension, the answer to Mello's wish is the same as another great being. For a servant to complete an epic quest! The one making the call had simply specified a brutal fighter who wouldn't let cruelty get in the way.
Unfortunately, the intended servant will need to be forced and Mello is just kind of along for the ride.
He appears at the exact same moment as Mary. The endless maze around them radiates danger, despite nothing immediately overtly threatening happening right now. The summoning circle on the stone floor was intended for one, making for a less than elegant start to their quest. Shoving a 7'8 grumpy green giant into the same space as a human(ish) woman results in him crashing on top of her.
Meanwhile, an omnipresent voice, the god doing the conjuring, makes a less than impressive start too-
"Uh. I was… expecting one?

hope this is okay!
Her seething anger accumulated in her gut like a pit of fire until she could hear it all around her, in the form of harsh but garbled whispers, incoherent - at least at first. Slowly, the words became less jumbled together. It was as if her anger manifested something.
It wouldn't be the first time.
She understood it perfectly once she focused on it, listening to its promises of life, and freedom, all for one little favor. Of course, she knew that the favor would be anything but "little". She's been on the other end of this one many, many, times before. Offering protection to the desperate...for a price. If it meant getting out of this infernal place, however, then she will do it.
It happened faster than she thought, once she came into agreement with the entity - something about slaying a number of threats that rival that of divine beings, blah blah. Kill some shit. That's all that matters.
She took one breath before she found herself shifting into a solid form...
...that quickly became pinned underneath another - an annoyingly heavier form. She grunts, using all of her (momentarily) dampened strength to stand in spite of the form on top of her.
"Move," she demands with no shortage of frustration, trying to get a visual on her new surroundings. "If this ends up being another joke, heads will roll."
"I was thinking the same, actually."
...That level of confusion is not what you want to hear from an omnipresent being responsible for your fate.
It's great!
"Heads rolling is my idea of a joke." His voice is low, with a slight rasp to it, but it carries a sense of youth- he just has a husky voice. Internally, he's a mixture of excited and confused. A challenge seems to be in the cards, though what exactly it is unclear. Unlike Mary, he didn't get a briefing, not even one he didn't listen to. After all, he's not meant to be here.
Mello looks around, resists complimenting Mary on her aesthetic (he likes red and black and scary!), takes in the maze around them and ends up... lost. He was kind of hoping to be dropped right into the action. Where's the supremely powerful enemy to have a 1 v 1 fight with? Unless...
"Well? I came here for a challenge. Am I here to fight her?"
He may fight too much. There are other kinds of challenges.
"No! She's here to fulfil a divine mandate." Brief pause while The Voice decides to pounce on an opportunity. A freebie. "And you are here to aid her."
Mello sputters wordlessly for a moment. He's a sidekick.

Her eyes go wide when the being speaks, head snapping in its...direction. Wherever the voice is coming from. Actually, she can't really tell, so she ends up redirecting her displeased glare to the green man before her instead.
"What? No one said anything about no sidekick!" She scoffs. "Jolly Green Giant over here's probably gonna slow me down, if anything." She remembers the briefing well enough. Sure, this maze looks troubling, but it's not something she can't figure out. And whatever thing resides in the center of it all...she knows she can handle. No doubt she can handle all the rest, wherever they are.
Then again, she's here because that fleabag got the best of her. Ugh.

"If we only need one... I'll thin the numbers now." His signature sinister smirk slides onto his lips, a pair of two-inch fangs slipping out. He practices it, it's plenty intimidating... To anyone who isn't a scary psycho. Under normal circumstances, he'd add his fearsome aura- but it's strangely difficult right now. In its stead, he looms, hands moving from behind his back to his hips to make his size all the more apparent.
They're given a moment to bicker. The voice is still trying to work out what's going on itself, but this is not how the story is meant to go. In the maze, it can conjure up a mutual threat. That'll get them on the same side, surely?

"Oh, how I would just adore seeing you try," her high-pitched only adds to the...glee in her tone, as if she's dying to have a reason to fight. Her lips curl back into a sinister smile. "Oh, please try something."
She spreads her arms theatrically, standing tall and open, daring him to make a move despite knowing she's weakened at the moment. But if she is, then so must he, right? Besides, she's sure even weakened, she could take him on. As much as she'd love to get this whole thing over with...she wouldn't mind having a little fun first.
